College Graduation

The past four years have been everything I could have hoped for in a college experience and much more.  When I first visited Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, I was a Junior in high school on a college tour visiting universities across the state of California.  After each new tour, I was impressed but not sold.. until I found Cal Poly.  The moment I stepped onto the campus, I knew I had found my home.  The people were the nicest I had ever encountered, the community was quaint and quiet and the campus like a place I could grow not only as a student, but as an individual.

I still remember the day I got my acceptance letter.  I walked through the front door late in the evening and immediately felt an air of excited anticipation.  I sat down on the couch, slightly suspicious of my parents’ poorly concealed elation.  “We have something to show you”, they remarked as they handed me a laptop, which I soon realized had an email from Cal Poly opened upon it.  I clicked the play button to a video link and silently watched as current students happily screamed CONGRATULATIONS!!!  After the shock wore off, I could feel the ducts in my eyes filling with tears.  The happiest tears I had ever experienced.  I had gotten into my dream school!

Now, four years later, I am still overwhelmed with emotion when I reflect on that moment.  Getting accepted into Cal Poly was one of the happiest moments of my life, and would lead to four incredible years in the best city I have ever been to.  Cal Poly offered me so many opportunities to get involved in both my campus and community.  I joined several clubs, had five internships and made countless friends and memories along the way.

My emotions on graduation day were the most bittersweet I have ever had.  San Luis Obispo will always have a special place in my heart, but after four years in this quaint little town, I decided it was time to chase bigger dreams, with the tool set I acquired during my time in college.  At the end of July, I will pursue a career that I have dreamt about for the past decade of my life–I will be working on a cruise ship as a show host, traveling around the world with the sole purpose of helping guests create memories that will last a lifetime.  I am excited for this next chapter, and plan to journal on this site about my experiences along the way.
